GST Updates: Last Chance for Taxpayers to Complete FY 2025-26 Process

The GST Network has moved the AATO amendment window for FY 2025-26, and taxpayers now have only until 31 July 2026 to act.

What Changed: The New AATO Amendment Timeline

Under Advisory No. 666 dated 1 July 2026, GSTN revised the timeline for amending Aggregate Annual Turnover (AATO) for FY 2025-26. Here is what taxpayers need to know:

  • Amendment window: 1 July 2026 to 31 July 2026
  • Tax officer review period: 1 August 2026 to 15 August 2026
  • Previous practice: Under the earlier advisory dated 2 May 2022, taxpayers could amend AATO only during the month of May, for all years up to FY 2024-25
GST Updates: Last Chance for Taxpayers to Complete FY 2025-26 Process

In short, the familiar "May window" that CAs and taxpayers have relied on for years no longer applies to FY 2025-26. GSTN has pushed it to July, and once 31 July 2026 passes, the self-amendment option will close for this financial year.

Why Did GSTN Push the Deadline to July?

The shift isn't arbitrary. GSTN is deploying an upgraded AATO functionality from 1 July 2026 onward that will automatically update a taxpayer's aggregate turnover as subsequent GST returns are filed, even after the amendment window closes. This is intended to improve consistency, accuracy, and uniformity of AATO reporting across the various modules of the GST portal.

Essentially, GSTN wants AATO to stay a live, self-correcting figure rather than a static number frozen after a single May correction. The one-time shift to a July window for FY 2025-26 is the transition step before this automated system takes over going forward.

Why Does Your AATO Figure Actually Matters?

AATO drives several compliance outcomes:

  • Composition scheme eligibility – your turnover threshold determines whether you can opt in or must exit
  • E-invoicing applicability – crossing the notified AATO threshold triggers mandatory e-invoicing
  • Other threshold-based validations across the GST portal that rely on turnover data

An incorrect AATO can lead to wrong compliance flags, unwanted e-invoicing obligations, or eligibility mismatches — all of which are far more painful to fix after the amendment window has closed than within it.

How to Amend Your AATO Before 31 July 2026

  1. Log in to the GST Portal and locate the AATO details displayed under your dashboard.
  2. Cross-check the figure against your actual GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B filings for the relevant period, since AATO is computed from returns already filed.
  3. If there's a mismatch, submit your amendment application within the 1-31 July 2026 window. Review every field carefully — GSTN has specifically flagged that details must be accurate before submission, since this is your only window for the year.
  4. Track verification: once submitted, your jurisdictional tax officer will review the amended details between 1 and 15 August 2026.
  5. Facing issues? Raise a grievance through the Self-Service Portal on the GST Portal for resolution.

A Practical Tip for the Road Ahead

Since AATO is derived directly from filed returns, the cleanest way to avoid amendment headaches next year is to ensure GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B are filed accurately and on time throughout the year. With the new automatic-updation functionality coming into effect, timely and correct return filing will matter even more than before.

FAQs

What is the last date to amend AATO for FY 2025-26?

The GST Annual Aggregate Turnover (AATO) amendment window for FY 2025-26 is open from 1 July 2026 to 31 July 2026. This is a one-time revision of the earlier May window, notified by GSTN under Advisory No. 666 dated 1 July 2026.

Why did GSTN shift the AATO amendment window from May to July?

GSTN is rolling out an upgraded AATO functionality from 1 July 2026 that will automatically update turnover as subsequent GST returns are filed after the amendment window. To align with this system upgrade, the amendment facility for FY 2025-26, earlier available in May under the 2 May 2022 advisory, has been moved to 1-31 July 2026.

What happens after I submit an AATO amendment request?

Once a taxpayer submits an AATO amendment application between 1 and 31 July 2026, the jurisdictional tax officer reviews and verifies the amended details between 1 August and 15 August 2026.

Why does AATO matter for GST compliance?

AATO drives several system-based compliance checks on the GST portal, including eligibility for the composition scheme, e-invoicing applicability, and other turnover-linked threshold validations. An incorrect AATO can trigger wrong compliance flags or block certain portal functionalities.

What should I do if my AATO shown on the portal is wrong?

First check whether all GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B returns for the relevant period have been filed correctly, since AATO is computed from filed returns. If the figure is still incorrect, submit an amendment request during the 1-31 July 2026 window. For unresolved issues, raise a grievance through the Self-Service Portal on the GST Portal.
