ICAI Announced Revised Schedule of CA May 2024 Exams

Every year in May and November students across India gear up to write the Chartered Accountancy, CA exams. They are organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, ICAI which is the regulatory body for the professionals.

CA exams consist of 3 levels and a mandatory articleship or training period to be completed before appearing for the last level.

• CA Foundation
• CA Inter
• CA Final

ICAI has recently made a landmark change to the number of exams to be held every year. In March 2024, ICAI announced that the CA Foundation and CA Inter exams will be held thrice a year instead of twice.

• The announcement by ICAI mentioned that CA Foundation and CA Inter exams will be held thrice a year expected to be in January, May/June and September. More details are expected soon.
• A record number of 4.36 lakh students are set to appear in the upcoming May 2024 exams under the New Scheme*. This is the first time in the 75-year history of ICAI.
• Conducting CA Foundation and CA Inter exams thrice a year will help students reduce stress and give them more opportunities to pass along with the flexibility of planning.
• CA Final exams will continue to be held twice a year in May and November.

Schedule of CA May 2024 exams

India is gearing up for the Lok Sabha Elections, causing students to wonder if there would be a postponement in the CA May 2024 exams. In the past, during the 2019 Indian Elections, the CA Exams were delayed by 2 weeks.

The Lok Sabha elections of 2024 are scheduled to take place over seven phases, commencing from April 19th and culminating with the final phase on June 1st. The electoral process will see phase 1 polling on April 19th, followed by subsequent phases on April 26th, May 7th, May 13th, May 20th, and May 25th. Counting of votes will occur on June 4th, marking the conclusion of this significant democratic event. 

However, CA Dhiraj Khandelwal recently tweeted his opinion, suggesting that the exam schedule for May 2024 should remain unchanged, with the only adjustment being the postponement of exams with clashing dates (such as May 7th and 13th) to May 15th and 16th. 

In the meantime, students who are appearing for the CA May 2024 exams are advised to wait for the official notification and continue preparing their studies in a focused manner and not get distracted.

*ICAI in its quest to stay relevant and reflective of current practices and to match global standards in June 2023 announced a significant syllabus change to be implemented for the very first time in the upcoming CA New Syllabus May 2024 exams. Out of the many revamps and updations to the everchanging subjects, some of the things introduced are self-paced online modules while the number of papers in Inter and Final levels were reduced from 8 to 6 and 30% marks to objective questions in all the papers.
