Salary & car rental income

Yes you can show the income as Income From Other Sources.  You can claim the deductions incurred in the renting of Cars and offer the same for taxation.

I think the income should be shown under the head "income from other sources".

you would be entitled to claim depreciation on the car as well as other expenditures if any.

"Income from letting of machineries, plants or furniture belonging to assessee, if not chargeable to tax under the head profit and gains of business or profession [section 2(24)(ii)]"

What is the difference between income from business and profession and income from other sources in case of car rentals?

The provision to define whether its business and profession or not is not very clear for this.

Either you take up in PGBP or Income from other sources. In both of the cases you will be entitled to claim depriciation and other expenses incurred on the car.

Its kind of not possible to take it in business and profession income as he is working for a company. might get into a conflict if he is running a parallel business
