maintainence of account books
do I require to keep account books if I have income from interest house property and salary but no professional or business income

Not required as such, but advisable to maintain records of bank statements, salary slips and form 16 and or other TDS certificates (form 16B), receipts of payments made under section 80C, 80D etc.., specifically if your total income is above MEL.
