Ltcg tax on debts funds

Dear Friends,

I have LTCG from debt funds with STT paid. And the amount is Rs.20000/= ( twenty thousand) after indexation. I dont have any other income.

Do I need to pay a tax of 10% on this LTCG ?

My understanding is, since my total income comes under minimum taxable income, I dont have to pay any tax.

Would be great, if someone can clarify my doubt....  I am beginner....

Thanks

Arcot

LTCG SUBJECT TO STT IS ALWAYS EXEMPT UNDER SEC 10(38)

SO NO TAX.

Thanks for your reply.

My understanding is, LTCG from debt funds are taxed even with STT paid. It is already mentioned somewhere in this forum. But my doubt was about necessity of paying the tax even when sum of all the income including LTCG is below the min. taxable income slab.

Would you please clarify?

Thanks

Arcot

if that is the case than u have to pay tax because basic exemption does not include ltcg/stcg

Jainendra,

Your reply is contradicting this thread:

Please reply.

Long-term capital gains (held over a year) on debt funds suffer a 10% tax without indexation or 20% with indexation benefit.

since u have taken indexation benefit u have to pay tax @ 20% and not @ 10%.

link u mentioned above is for proprerty and not for debt funds.

I may be wrong in my previos views.Sorry for that.

please reply.
