Income tax implication from gift tax perspective

Hi Forum,

I have gone through lot of posts and articles on this topic but still not clear on particular point.

I am aware that gifts from relatives is non-taxable irrespective of the amount. But consider a scenario, where father had gifted 3 lakhs to Son (both are tax payers) and do fill returns, what would be the tax implications in following scenarios:

      1) Son had opened FD for that 3 lakhs amount.

      2) Son had gifted the same amount to mother.

Please do let me know on the tax implications for above scenarios.

Thanks in advance.

Regards, Siva

1) The son can open FD but the interest earned on the FD will be taxable in his own hands.

2) He may gift any amount to his mother, and the same shall be tax-free in the hands of the mother.

Agreed with mihir. He given right clarification.

Yeaa agreed with Mihir....There is no more explanation to give you....

Bingo mihir...perfect
Thanks for this query
Agreed with Mr.mihir..and if the f.d. fulfills the conditions u/s 10(12) of fd..the interest income is also exempt.
Pardon..the section is 10(15) not 10(12)..
