If i have a company name xyzgroup construction pvt.ltd. can i form another company named xyzgroup legal pvt.ltd. ?
Iam Asking This Because;
i have heard that two companies cannot have similar names?
OR is it that i will have to apply for a TRADE-NAME registration first & then i can use the word "XYZGROUP" and can form another company with the similar first name?

I think You can form the company with name xyzgroup legal pvt ltd because construction and legal will be separate set of activites

As per current scenario, you will be able to incorporate another company named "xyzgroup legal pvt ltd' even though there exist a company named 'xyzgroup construction pvt ltd'

Yes, but if your OPC has same name with the word 'OPC' included, then not possible.
