Clashing Papers, Common Entrance Test Lead To Rescheduling

Mumbai: Three final-year examinations and some papers have been delayed, less than a week after a TYBCom paper was pushed ahead as the university did not print the question paper in time. Now, the University of Mumbai has postponed all the papers of the final-year banking and insurance course and the accountancy and finance programme, as they are clashing with the chartered accountancy examination.
    Even the BMS exam (semester 5) has been postponed as some students approached the varsity and requested that new exam dates be given as they were also CA aspirants. So all three exams that were to be held from May 10-15 would now be conducted from May 18-24.
    Officials in the Institute of Chartered Accounts of India said they had declared the dates for the CA exam well in advance—sometime in February. But Vilas Shinde, controller of examination at the university, said he recently received a request for a change in exam dates from students. “I had declared the university’s exam schedule in November as per the rules prescribed under the University Act,’’ he said.
    Moreover, all papers that were to be held on May 5 and 6 have been cancelled as the state’s CET for medical and engineering courses would be held on May 6. All the papers have been pushed to a day after the respective exams were to originally end. For instance, the financial accounting system paper for the final year BA (economics) students that was scheduled to be held on May 5, has been thrown to June 2.
    The varsity said dates had to be re-scheduled the exam centres would have to cater to CET candidates. Close to 2.85 lakh candidates would be taking the entrance test. “All centres would be putting up seating arrangement a day before the CET, so we cannot use the exam centres on two days. Hence, we have cancelled all papers on May 5 and 6,’’ said Shinde.
