Attitude - How We Tackle Things Defines Our Life

Attitude is a great leveler. Our perspective dictates much about the way we live our life. Whether our life is a positive, accepting and productive one. Whether our life is one of accomplishment, achievement and satisfaction. Or is our life negative, isolating and debilitating.

The choice is ours.

The greatest discovery of my generation is that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitudes of mind. William James

What should we do?

Perhaps we need to consider things and devote some effort to looking at our standpoint and see how it does really affect our life. And, if we are not happy with it, take the time and trouble doing something about it.

So what is our disposition?

To 'have-an-attitude' is understood to present something to the world and the people around us. And it is often not an inviting and welcoming manner aspect of life - often far from it.

This is taking things to one extreme, but what does a cross-section of views mean to us on a day to day basis?

We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars. Oscar Wilde

Can we be descripttive?

We can describe our attitudes in various ways. They

  • can be a way we think
  • can be a way we behave
  • can be almost something we 'exude'
  • can be friendly and welcoming, or not
  • can instead warn off all comers - a leave me alone state (with almost a sign around our necks)
  • can be an orientation we take
  • can be a mental take on life
  • can be an acceptance of life

In addition, our 'point of view' can be

  • a defensive stance
  • a no-nonsense stance
  • a sign of arrogance
  • a posture or posturing - almost beware of us, or else . . .
  • a tolerant acceptance
  • an intolerance - and showing it
  • almost a reverence for the situation, or
  • treating a situation with disdain
  • a position we uphold
  • a pose as if acting
  • a meditative position
  • a mannerism
  • our bearing
  • our carriage
  • an approach to an aspect of life
  • a stance or slant we take

but we can also look at them as

  • an outlook we may have
  • an opinion
  • a thought or manner of thinking
  • a mood or a feeling
  • a point of view or a perspective
  • an air or disposition we take
  • a way of thinking

If I improve my attitude I can help me
my life - deeds, thoughts and actions - I can foresee
they will grow and develop in stature over time
being honest, loyal, trustworthy, will not cost me a dime

On what do we base our point of view?

Our perspective can be viewed from different angles. The following are just a selection.

  • based upon a particular mindset
  • our knowledge of life
  • our knowledge of ourselves
  • our interaction with life
  • a tendency we have
  • a disposition
  • a frame of mind
  • a particular mind-set or mood
  • a point of view
  • a tone
  • based upon our past experience
  • seen in the life of someone we hold close or dear
  • observed in the life or actions of someone we hold in great esteem
  • demonstrated by our boss
  • taken from a close family member

There are various questions we may wish to be answered

What areas might we question?

  • How does our stand point affect our lives and the people around us?
  • Can our view change and if so how and can we make the change?
  • Is it constant or is always changing?
  • From what or where does our point of view stem - or are things not that simple?
  • If we are centered then is our perspective good?
  • If we are stressed, or confused, or tired, or ill - what happens to our mind-set or point of view?
If you aspire to the highest place, it is no disgrace to stop at the second, or even the third, place. Cicero

What would be good to look here?

What should we be looking at on this part of the website? With regards to our perspective, standpoint or point of view:

  • should we always be responsible?
  • will there be any attitude quotes  to motivate me?
  • does our character  affect our attitudes?
  • can we look at ourselves with pride?
  • do we praise ourselves?
  • do we offer praise to others?
  • where does being critical fit in?
  • where does enthusiasm fit in?
  • are their different ideas about how we can affect things?
  • are we of an optimistic nature?
  • are persistence and perseverance in our skills set or tool kit?
  • does sorrow affect our perspective?
  • is a little madness acceptable if not a good thing in this day and age?
  • can we act on a consistent basis ?

So what place do our attitudes have in our life?

What price our attitudes?

Are they related to our value system? Are they dependent upon our set of principles - the way we live? Or is it the chicken and the egg?

I live therefore my perspective is 'AAA', or my attitudes are 'BBB' and my live stems from them? Who is in charge here? Who rules what or whom?

irst, say to yourself what you would be; and then do what you have to do. Epictetus

Everyday life . . .

We are influenced by many things in life. Some are within our control, while others are outside even our sphere of influence.

Where does our perspective or standpoint originate from? Maybe they reside within us or without, or nowhere in particular.

Whatever.

Alas our attitude is a definite thing, yet it does fall under our influence. What we need to is to help ensure that it starts to come under our control for then it will sing to our tune.

To which tune will you sing . . .

It will sing to the tune that we wish, rather than run around out of control with us running after it and trying to catch up, let alone attempt to change its aspect or demeanor.

We are in charge of ourselves. With that comes responsibility. And with that can come through some of the many joys of life. What we need to do is just to be ready for their appearance and make the most of them during their sojourn with us. And let ourselves move on.

Your way . . .

Hang on in there for yourself, but let life take care of the things and aspects that come under its control. May we all embrace life and make the most of it. And the only real way to do that is through having a good, firm, consistent, positive, active and productive attitude.

Don't fear it, embrace it and claim your rightful place in life's rich tapestry.

Why do I need a good attitude
to deal with any interlude
to cope with any solitude
to get on with the multitude
to benefit from my aptitude
with others to offer latitude
to meet hard times with fortitude
but to avoid servitude
to understand life's magnitude
oh boy, do I need a good attitude!
