Who introduced tax in India

Tax has been prevalent since the known history of India. It was given different names, mehsul/Lagaan. customs duty was prevalent since kingship began where Traders use to bring gifts the king of the land where they traded.

the moment when people wanted to be protected from inroads, they elected a chief and the people in volition wanted to feed him and his forces to ensure they concentrate in the well being of the very people; the people themselves gave a part of their food grains on a regular basis to maintain the chieftain and his forces like soldiers, horses and the like that way was born the idea of self taxing that became future 'taxation'; that gradually grew into forced taxing the public and yet people slowly accepted with revolting. Taxation is thus born.
