A man has been arrested in Palghar district for allegedly impersonating an Income Tax officer and cheating a woman of Rs 55.8 lakh during a staged raid. The accused, identified as Faiyaz Kader Kazi, also known as Manish Pawaskar, was taken into custody by Boisar Police on Thursday.
According to officials, Kazi and his accomplices conducted a fake raid at a residence in Mann village last month. The group reportedly posed as Income Tax department personnel, displayed forged ID cards, and seized Rs 55.8 lakh kept in a cupboard before fleeing the scene.

Following the woman's complaint, police launched a detailed investigation and analysed CCTV footage from multiple routes, including Boisar-Chilhar Road, Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway, and Manor-Bhiwandi Highway. The footage helped track the movements of the suspects, leading to Kazi's arrest.
Kazi, originally from Rajapur in Ratnagiri district, is currently in police custody. A manhunt has been initiated to trace his remaining associates involved in the crime.
Police have urged citizens to remain vigilant and verify identities of officials during any enforcement action, as cases of impersonation and fake raids have been on the rise across several regions.
