The Ministry of Railways, through Commercial Circular No. 18 of 2025 dated September 20, has announced a reduction in the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) of packaged drinking water sold at railway premises and onboard trains. The revised prices will come into effect from September 22, 2025.

Under the new directive, the price of a 1-litre bottle of packaged drinking water, including Rail Neer and other IRCTC-shortlisted brands, has been reduced from Rs 15 to Rs 14. Similarly, the price of a 500 ml bottle has been revised from Rs 10 to Rs 9.
The Ministry clarified that the revised rates are applicable uniformly to Rail Neer and all other packaged drinking water brands authorised by IRCTC and sold across railway stations and trains.
This move is aimed at providing affordable drinking water options to millions of daily rail passengers and ensuring fair pricing across the railway network. The circular further instructs zonal railways and IRCTC to take necessary compliance measures to implement the price revision with immediate effect.
The Railway Board, in consultation with the Finance (Commercial) Directorate, issued the notification and directed that all stakeholders ensure adherence to the new MRP structure from September 22, 2025.
With Indian Railways catering to over 2 crore passengers daily, this price cut is expected to be a welcome step for travellers, especially regular commuters who depend on packaged water during their journeys.
