FAQ :

TAXASSIST is a digital helpdesk launched by the Income Tax Department to provide taxpayers with guidance on income tax compliance, help resolve common issues, and assist with responding to departmental notices.

TAXASSIST can help with issues such as understanding notices, filing revised or updated returns (ITR-U), clarifying consequences of incorrect deductions, complying with documentation requirements, and receiving reminders for tax deadlines.

A major concern is the misuse of Section 80GGC, which allows deductions for donations to political parties only by individuals, not businesses. Taxpayers falsely claiming this deduction are being flagged.

If you claimed Section 80GGC by mistake, you should file a revised return or an ITR-U, pay any due taxes and interest, and return any excess refund received to avoid scrutiny or penalties.

The department is matching taxpayer claims with third-party data from banks, mutual funds, and government records using AIS and SFT databases, automatically flagging incorrect or unsupported deductions.

The deadline to file income tax returns for non-audit taxpayers is September 15, 2025.
