Income Tax Department clarifies on taxpayers having difficulty in receipt of Aadhaar based OTP

The Finance Ministry has extended the due dates for filing Income Tax Returns, Tax Audit Reports, and GST Compliances. The updated due dates are as follows:

1. INCOME TAX RETURN (For taxpayers who are required to get their accounts audited) - 15th February 2021

2. INCOME TAX RETURN (For taxpayers who are not required to get their accounts audited) - 10th January 2021

3. TAX AUDIT REPORTS - 15th January 2021

4. GST ANNUAL RETURN (FY 19-20) - 28th February 2021

Several taxpayers and professionals experienced difficulty in the receipt of Aadhaar based OTP on the Income Tax Portal while filing their Income Tax Return. In this regard, the department has issued a clarification. Read the same below:

It has come to our notice that users are experiencing some difficulty in receipt of Aadhaar based OTP for the purpose of e-verification of ITRs filed. This issue has been taken up with the authorities concerned.

Income Tax OTP Issues and Extended Filing Deadlines

However, it is reiterated that, while, filing of ITR is to be done within the stipulated period, the e-verification of ITR filed can/may be done with Aadhaar OTP or other options within 120 days from the date of filing of the ITR.

FAQ :

The Income Tax Department is clarifying issues related to taxpayers experiencing difficulty in receiving Aadhaar-based OTPs on the Income Tax portal for e-verification of filed Income Tax Returns.

For taxpayers requiring an audit, the due date is 15th February 2021. For those not requiring an audit, the due date is 10th January 2021.

The due date for filing Tax Audit Reports is 15th January 2021.

The due date for the GST Annual Return for FY 19-20 is 28th February 2021.

You can e-verify your filed ITR using Aadhaar OTP or other options within 120 days from the date of filing.
