The New Income Tax Act, 2025 has been framed with a clear objective, making tax laws easier to understand for ordinary citizens and reducing the complexity often associated with income tax compliance.
According to the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, the new legislation has been designed to be more taxpayer-friendly, with simpler language and a more organised structure that helps people navigate tax provisions without confusion.
Speaking at an awareness event in Madurai, the senior tax official said that while the new Act does not drastically alter tax policies or introduce major changes in tax rates, it focuses on simplifying the legal framework. The intention is to make the law easier to read and reduce the difficulties taxpayers often face while understanding provisions under the existing Income Tax Act.

For decades, India's income tax law has undergone numerous amendments, making it lengthy and difficult for many taxpayers to interpret. Officials believe the Income Tax Act, 2025, addresses this issue by restructuring provisions in a clearer manner and using more accessible terminology.
The Income Tax Department has also been actively conducting awareness programmes to familiarise taxpayers with the proposed law and encourage smoother adoption. Officials noted that improving understanding among taxpayers can strengthen voluntary compliance and reduce avoidable errors during return filing.
The Chief Commissioner highlighted that a simplified tax law benefits not only individual taxpayers but also professionals and businesses by minimising ambiguity and improving clarity in compliance requirements.
The government has repeatedly maintained that the purpose of the new Act is not to create additional burdens but to build a simpler, modern and more transparent tax ecosystem. By making provisions easier to interpret, authorities expect taxpayers to feel more confident while handling their tax obligations.
As India moves towards implementing the Income Tax Act, 2025, taxpayers may see a system that places greater emphasis on clarity, ease of understanding and smoother compliance, a shift aimed at making taxation less intimidating and more citizen-centric.
