GSTN Rolls Out New IMS Tab to Track Rejected Notes for GSTR-3B

Last updated: 20 February 2026

The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has introduced a new functionality in the Invoice Management System (IMS). Announced on February 18, 2026, the update adds a dedicated "Rejected Records" tab under the Outward Supplies section.

The feature allows taxpayers to quickly identify rejected Credit Notes, Debit Notes and related amended records where tax liability needs to be added back while filing Form GSTR-3B.

GSTN Rolls Out New IMS Tab to Track Rejected Notes for GSTR-3B

What the New Feature Offers

The newly introduced tab provides a consolidated view of records that were previously difficult to track, helping taxpayers focus specifically on entries requiring corrective action.

Key aspects of the update include:

  • A dedicated tab in the IMS dashboard to display rejected records
  • Coverage of rejected Credit/Debit Notes (Registered) and related amendments
  • Identification of entries where tax liability must be re-added in GSTR-3B
  • Continued availability of Excel download for reconciliation purposes
  • Reduced need for manual data review

Why This Update Matters

Previously, taxpayers had to manually scan IMS data to identify rejected notes and determine whether liability adjustments were required. This often led to lengthy reconciliation exercises and increased the possibility of missing entries.

With the new tab, GSTN has automated the identification process, making it easier to track adjustments and maintain accurate tax reporting.

Benefits for Businesses and Professionals

The enhancement is expected to deliver several practical benefits:

  • Faster reconciliation between IMS data and GSTR-3B returns
  • Lower risk of reporting errors
  • Reduced compliance workload
  • Better visibility of liability adjustments
  • More efficient return preparation process

Strengthening Digital Compliance

The introduction of this feature reflects GSTN's ongoing efforts to enhance system capabilities and make compliance more user-friendly. By providing clearer visibility into rejected records, the update supports more accurate filings and reinforces a technology-driven approach to tax administration.

As GST systems continue to evolve, such enhancements are expected to play a key role in reducing compliance friction and improving the overall taxpayer experience.
