The Tamil Nadu Traders Federation felicitated Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday for introducing the GST 2.0 tax revision and reduction measures during a grand event held at the PSG Convention Centre, Neelambur.
The felicitation ceremony witnessed participation from over 1,000 traders across Tamil Nadu, marking a show of appreciation for the Finance Minister's recent tax rationalisation initiatives aimed at simplifying the GST structure.

Traders Welcome Simplified GST and Festive Relief
Addressing the gathering, the President of the Tamil Nadu Traders Federation expressed gratitude to the Finance Minister for reducing GST rates to two slabs, calling it a major relief for traders during the festive season.
"The GST reduction has brought significant economic benefits to traders and boosted consumer demand. The simplified structure has improved ease of doing business across sectors," the federation president noted.
The federation also submitted a charter of 33 demands to the minister, urging the government to further simplify GST compliance. Key among the demands was a proposal to merge the two GST categories into a single rate, alongside calls for a pension scheme for small traders, similar to that of small farmers, and simplified penalty and registration procedures.

FM Sitharaman added that the tax reduction measures had directly contributed to higher purchasing power, improved trader income and growth across industries."In particular, the automobile, insurance and consumer electronics sectors-including the sales of TVs and air-conditioners have witnessed significant growth following the tax rate revisions," she noted.
Focus on Simplification and Support for Small Businesses
The Finance Minister assured traders that the government is taking continuous steps to simplify GST registration and income tax filing processes to make compliance easier for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
She reiterated the government's commitment to strengthening the MSME and retail ecosystem, ensuring that tax reforms translate into real benefits for the business community.
Outlook
With the rollout of GST 2.0, the government aims to streamline tax administration, reduce compliance burden, and stimulate domestic trade. The positive response from traders in Tamil Nadu underscores the on-ground benefits of recent tax reforms and the growing alignment between policymakers and the business community.
