Last updated: 26 September 2025

The Ministry of Finance has issued Notification No. 40/2025-Customs, extending the validity of certain customs duty exemptions under Notification No. 50/2017-Customs dated June 30, 2017. The changes, notified through the Gazette of India, will come into effect from September 30, 2025.

Finance Ministry Extends Validity of Key Customs Duty Exemptions Until 2027

According to the notification, exemptions under Serial No. 597 (items iii and v), 598, 601, 602, and 603 have now been extended until September 30, 2027, providing continued relief to importers. However, Serial No. 597 (item i) will lapse after September 30, 2025 and will no longer remain effective.

The move is expected to benefit businesses that rely on concessional or zero-duty imports of specific goods. By extending exemptions for another two years, the government aims to provide stability and predictability to importers, manufacturers, and trade stakeholders.

This latest amendment builds upon the principal notification of June 30, 2017, which has undergone multiple revisions, the most recent being Notification No. 39/2025-Customs dated September 17, 2025.

The Finance Ministry clarified that these changes were made in the public interest, ensuring continued support for industry while phasing out certain concessions in a structured manner.
