The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has issued Instruction No. 25/2025-Customs, dated August 6, 2025, notifying six additional points of entry for food imports under the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act, 2006. This update, read with Section 47(5) of the Act and Regulation 13(1) of the FSS (Import) Regulation, 2017, increases the total number of notified points to 165 across the country.

According to the notification, the newly added points of entry are:
- LCS Darranga, Assam - Superintendent/Appraiser/Inspector/Examiner
- SEZ-MEPZ Special Economic Zone, Chennai, Tamil Nadu - Shri S. Pandiyaraja, Joint Director, Southern Region Office, FSSAI
- ICD Raipur, Chhattisgarh - Superintendent/Appraiser/Inspector/Examiner
- Jubilant SEZ, Vilayat GIDC, Bharuch, Gujarat - Superintendent/Appraiser/Inspector/Examiner
- HBS SEZ Panoli, Bharuch, Gujarat - Superintendent/Appraiser/Inspector/Examiner
- Bhubaneswar Air Cargo, Odisha - Superintendent/Appraiser/Inspector/Examiner
The updated list covers airports, seaports, inland container depots (ICDs), land customs stations (LCS), and special economic zones (SEZs) where authorised officers-both from FSSAI and Customs-are designated to oversee food import inspections.
CBIC has directed all Principal Chief Commissioners, Chief Commissioners, and other senior Customs officials to sensitise officers under their jurisdiction about the revised list. This move aims to enhance the monitoring of imported food products, ensure compliance with safety standards, and streamline clearance processes at designated entry points.
The earlier Customs Instruction No. 17/2024, dated July 5, 2024, stands modified to reflect these changes. Any operational challenges arising from this update are to be reported to the Board for resolution.
