Last updated: 04 November 2025

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against an Assistant Commissioner of the CGST from Jaipur for allegedly amassing assets disproportionate to known sources of income by nearly 100%, officials confirmed on Friday.

According to the CBI statement, the case was registered on Tuesday following a detailed preliminary inquiry into allegations of unexplained wealth accumulation during the officer's tenure at CGST offices in Jaipur and Ahmedabad between August 2018 and August 2025.

CBI Alleges Rs 2.54 Crore in Unexplained Assets

Investigations revealed that the accused officer had acquired assets worth approximately Rs 2.54 crore, including properties, vehicles and investments held both in his name and in the names of his family members. These assets, the agency said, were disproportionate to his known income and could not be satisfactorily explained.

Officials suspect that the officer channelled illicit funds through multiple firms, LLPs and family-owned entities to conceal the origins of the wealth.

Searches Recover Gold, Silver, and Luxury Vehicles

CBI teams carried out search operations at several locations linked to the accused across Jaipur, Ankleshwar and Ahmedabad, leading to the recovery of gold and silver jewellery valued at around Rs 35 lakh.

Investigators also identified several immovable properties in Rajasthan, along with high-end vehicles, including a Porsche and a Jeep Compass, reportedly owned by the officer and his family. Two bank lockers held in the names of his family members have also been traced and are currently being examined by the agency.

CBI Continues Probe into Financial Trail

The CBI is now scrutinizing the financial transactions, property documents, and company records associated with the officer and his relatives to establish the full extent of the disproportionate assets. Officials added that further action would depend on the findings of the ongoing forensic and financial analysis.

The development marks another significant step in the CBI's ongoing drive against corruption and misconduct in revenue departments, particularly within the indirect tax administration framework.
