Quick Summary
This discussion explores whether a 'Special Allowance' received from an employer can be claimed as an exemption under Section 10(14)(i) of the Income Tax Act. The original poster is incurring daily office-related expenses, such as for uniforms, from this allowance but has not kept records. Other members are questioning if the nature of the allowance is prescribed for exemption and suggest checking with HR or looking into specific allowances like the Special Security Allowance for Intelligence Bureau officers.

Is the nature of special allowance prescribed in any document. It should fall under the prescribed category for claiming exemption. Check with HR.

What is the tax treatment of special security allowance to an Intelligence Bureau officer? Is it exempt??
