Vinod Gupta always prefered for self study!!!!simple and easy to understand.....

Girish Ahuja is also a good option for self study.

For Direct Tax self study you should go for Girish Ahuja or TN Manoharan. Both are wonderful for the preparation of Tax theory and conceptual clarity.  

However for DT practical problems you may refer VG or VK Singhania.

 I suggest Vinod Gupta..easy to understand as well as lots of practicals and explanations provided !!

Sequences are missing in Vinod Gupta module.....so it will be difficult to compose the whole syllabus in Vg sir's Module.....i am the sufferer of the Module by Vinod Gupta.So it wud be fine to go either Girish Ahuja or T.N.Manmohan......

Of course both books are good, But For IPC-T N Manoharan is the best, but for Final level- Vinod Gupta is the best for self study.

manoharan is good for self study...............................padhuka is good when one is conceptually strong

Vg is made for self study students.. Complete package for concept building.
