Wrong tax demands from AY 2022 and 2023 not clearing on the portal is more common than it should be. The challan mismatch between the CPC payment register and your tax records is a known issue.
Try these steps in order:
1. Pull a fresh 26AS and AIS from the portal. Payments sometimes show there but have not synced to the demand register yet.
2. File a Rectification Request under Section 154 (not just a grievance) directly against the specific intimation u/s 143(1) that generated the demand. Upload the challan and payment receipt as attachments.
3. If Section 154 stays stuck for 30 plus days, send a formal written representation to your Jurisdictional AO requesting a Stay of Demand, citing the challan details and mismatch. Send it by registered post and keep acknowledgment.
4. CPGRAMS works but is slow. The AO route with a written letter tends to get faster results.
