Yes it is compulsory to file DIR-11
As per the provisions of the Section 168 of the Companies Act 2013, a director may resign from the Company by giving his resignation and such resignation shall mention the date of resignation and such resignation shall be effective from the date specified in the resignation letter or the date of the resignation letter, whichever is later. And the Company is under the obligation to file the resignation of the Director to ROC within 30 days of resignation and shall take the note of such resignation in the Board Meeting. However now it is optional to file form DIR 11 by the Director with ROC.
