REGISTER ACCOUNT IN INCOME TAX PORTAL - NRI & OCI

For applying pan , aadhaar is not required for OCI/NRI ( documents will be sent in physical mode ). 
But to register account in Income Tax portal ( to file ITR etc,. ) , then is aadhaar otp required ? 
This is w.r.t NRI and OCI pan only .

If status is NRI/OCI & if PAN is validated/operative (offline), then no need for aadhar otp.

For NRIs and OCIs who do not have Aadhaar, is there any alternate method to complete OTP verification while registering on the income tax portal? It would be helpful if someone could clarify whether email-based or international number-based OTP is accepted. Thanks! poor bunny
