Quick Summary
GST portal stuck on FY 2026-27/April is likely a technical glitch. Fix by clearing cache, using incognito mode, switching browsers, or re-logging. If unresolved, raise a complaint with GSTN helpdesk.

Seems to be a GST portal technical glitch during FY transition. Please try cache clear, Incognito mode, and Chrome/Firefox desktop login. If portal is still defaulting to FY26-27 / Apr period and period change is not working, raise complaint on GST Self Service Portal with screenshot and contact GSTN helpdesk.

The issue appears to be related to a temporary portal functionality or caching behavior on the GST portal, where the return period (April 2026–27) is automatically selected after login and users face difficulty changing the tax period.

You may try the following practical solutions:

  1. Clear browser cache and cookies or open the portal in Incognito/Private mode.
  2. Use a different browser (preferably Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge updated to the latest version).
  3. Log out completely and re-login after closing all GST portal tabs.
  4. Avoid using saved bookmarks for specific return pages; instead navigate through Services → Returns → Returns Dashboard and manually select the required financial year and period.
  5. If the issue persists, it is likely a system-side glitch due to heavy portal traffic or backend updates.

In case the problem continues, raise a ticket through GST Helpdesk (Self-Service Portal) or contact GSTN support, as such issues generally get resolved from the backend. - Setindiabiz

The portal issues on April 20 affected a large number of filers ,  you are not alone. If the portal is accessible now, file immediately: a same-day or next-day filing limits late fee to ₹50. Keep a screenshot or acknowledgment of the GST Grievance Portal ticket you raise ,  while Section 168 extensions are granted to all registered taxpayers by official CBIC notification (not individually), documented grievances strengthen any future penalty waiver request under Section 128A. Check cbic.gov.in for any CBIC notification extending the deadline before paying the late fee.
