Is it correct that employees cannot claim exemption under conveyance expenses i.e Rs.800 pm /9600 pa
if they do not receive any amount under head conveyance allowance in their salary.

Company do all such things to save taxes for the employee. This is a taxplaning tool.
as per your query you are correct, we have to show it as conveyance in salary structure than only such exemption can be granted to employee.
