If you want to become an Income Tax Officer you have to appear for civil services examination, which is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). In the civil services posts are of Group ‘A’ officer cadre.

You could also take the competitive exam for Inspectors of Central Excise, Income Tax, etc. conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC)
