if that box is not filed....by mistake... than is there any need to contact exam department...
as per me; it was for claiming exemption....
but if failed in earlier attempt...and there are no exemptions ....than is there any need..
Its better to do what is right than wondering about is it worong or not..
You should provide such info to ICAI.
