Yes....... but main query for the defectiveness is to be resolved during revision u/s. 139(9).

earlier the tax was payable. but on correcting the defective return , refund is there can we claim the refund in case of defective return reply

u can change any data but these cases generally called for scrutiny lateron so keep this in mind.

In the above case ,if I dont respond to defective return and the return is treated as invalid. after that can i File the return again as belated return with changes as the refund is major amt.

the reason is due to its belated one, as it was already a belated one & also to revise a return is assessee's right if the revise return has proper particulars than the previous one.
