Condonation request to file ITR for previous years

Tax queries 295 views 12 replies

Good day all respected members,

I am an NRI and I have not filed my tax for the past 6 years. I've recently come to know that I have TDS deposited in all these years and I would like to file my ITR for claiming the same.

I have Sent a letter to the JO requesting condonation for filing tax of earlier years, however it's been two weeks and I have not got any response from them.

Could somebody guide me on what is to be done and how I can successfully get the condonation request from the respective JO

Thanks and regards

Dean

How you sent a letter to JO ??

Sent it via email and as a physical copy . Details for the jurisdictional officer was taken from profile.

Okk then just call them or visit personally
You can file an online grievance..Need not visit AO
No grievance can be filed as letter is posted manually or by mail not through website.
Website grievance should be answered by AO..Longback it is introduced
But letter is sent to JO

How long does it usually take? I have also submitted a grievance as it's taken 2 weeks already, this will serve as a reminder. Would calling be a good option ? And the number is on the portal ?

Generally reply received in 1-2 months in grievances , so better visit personally
If all the points are filed in Itr U as per Norms . It must be processed within 1 month. However, depends on the nature of assesse and AO

Yes I just checked what you mentioned and we can file updated returns / original returns for 2 years prior current AY.

Thanks for the information.  Still hoping to get condonation for late filing for the last 5 years from current AY

Sir, please check that you filed ITR-U for refund or not, as refund not allowed in case of ITR-U
