Sanyam,
Between the 2 articles you have not mentioned the following.
Your average working hours. Do not count travelling hours or home to home hours. Tell us your Office in and out hours.
The institute recommends 35 hrs of training per week. I supppose you work 5 days a week. That is 7 hrs a day. So if you work longer hours, do you get compensatory leave, now or later?
How are you managing BCom (if you are doing) along with this?

Dear Pratap,
Though your questioned is posed to Sanyam,
The common thing in working with Big 4s will be, Once you are working as an article you should not look at watch i.e., Your reporting time in the office will be well streamlined but when you can signout no one can say. Primarily in the busy schedules say July-September where balance sheets has to be prepared and signed, if required you have to work upto 2-3 AM in the early morning and next day reporting should not be reasonably late.
In the very rare case your opinion will be asked, otherwise you have to follow as per the requirement.

Dear Ateeq,
Learning to put in hours whenever required is a part of work life. I do not see that happening all the time. Otherwise, the sturdiest of the workhorses will fall apart. Therefore, working long hours in the season is an okay training, even if not acceptable on paper by the institute. Those who find it difficult now will face serious issues in delivery of work later on in their paid professional lives.
One question that remains unanswered is about the compensatory leave against the long grind. Because if that is available, preparing for the finals will be easier.

Hello brothers
A very happy Dussare and Dipawali to one and all.
Lets pray that all of are well placed and given better opportunities to serve the noble profession and the country.
It seems that it a tempory phase which we are undergoing. As we all know that CA PROFESSION IF EVER GREEN . and I would like that remeber the proverb EVERY CLOUD HAS SILVER LINING.
Fortunately I too belong to Ernst and Young. I have done my articled ship from small firms. I can proudly say that I got a very good opportunities when I was in medium firm.I would like summarise the it as follows.
1) I was exposed to various registration of the firm and trusts.
2)I have done pay role processing and internal audit of various software companies.
3) I was a part of IPO processing for a listed company and I got an opportunity to be a part of QUALIFIED INSTITUTIONAL PLACEMENT. QIP for a listed company.
If I compare this experince with that of BIG 4 I would like to say we get a very minimum exposure campared to small firms.
Yes, of course the brand really matters but tell me friends , how many of us can join BIG 4's
In BIG we really lean structured way of doing an audit and the process of audit will be well documeted in BIG 4's.
I would like to conclude that try for BIG 4 in case if you are getting through try in some you can always ask your friends for more details.

For the befit of new joininees the Stiphend as may be as follows.
1) BIG 4's same aroung 15 to 18 depending on the city where as ordinary firm it would range from 5 k to 10 k again depending on city.
2) working hours: Your reporting time in the office will be well streamlined but when you can signout no one can say. Primarily in the busy schedules say July-September where balance sheets has to be prepared and signed, if required you have to work upto 2-3 AM in the early morning and next day reporting should not be reasonably late. where as in small there could be mutual understanding between you and your boss.
3) Outstation audit : it really depends on your client profile which you handle irrespective of BIG 4 or medium firm.
