When an educational institution paid for lifetime membership fee to another educational institution then accounting treatment in the hand of payee and receiver.

12 December 2012 educational institution (incorporated as a trust) paid to Engineering council of India for the lifetime member then accounting in the hand of educational institution .

25 July 2024 When an educational institution (incorporated as a trust) pays a lifetime membership fee to another educational institution, such as the Engineering Council of India, the accounting treatment for both parties involved would typically be as follows:

### Accounting Treatment in the Hands of the Paying Educational Institution (Trust):

1. **Recognition as Expense (Payer)**:
- The payment made for the lifetime membership fee to the Engineering Council of India would be recognized as an expense in the books of the educational institution (trust).
- This expense would typically be categorized under administrative or membership expenses, depending on the accounting policies of the institution.

2. **Accounting Entries**:
- **Expense Recognition**: Debit the Membership Fees Expense or Administrative Expenses account.
- **Cash/Bank Payment**: Credit the Bank account or Cash account.

3. **GST Implications**:
- If applicable, GST paid on the membership fee would be accounted for separately, with appropriate GST credit claimed, if eligible.

### Accounting Treatment in the Hands of the Receiving Educational Institution (Engineering Council of India):

1. **Recognition as Revenue (Receiver)**:
- The membership fee received from the educational institution (trust) would be recognized as revenue in the books of the Engineering Council of India.

2. **Accounting Entries**:
- **Revenue Recognition**: Credit the Membership Fee Revenue or Services Revenue account.
- **Debit Entry**: Depending on the nature of the transaction and the specific accounting practices, a corresponding entry may be made to a liability account or directly to the bank account if received in cash.

3. **GST Implications**:
- If applicable, GST on the membership fee received would be accounted for in accordance with GST regulations.

### Additional Considerations:

- **GST Treatment**: Ensure compliance with GST regulations regarding the treatment of membership fees, including invoicing, reporting, and payment of GST where applicable.

- **Documentation**: Maintain proper documentation of the transaction, including invoices or receipts issued/received, to support the accounting entries and for audit purposes.

- **Disclosure**: Properly disclose these transactions in financial statements, including any contingent liabilities or commitments if relevant.

In summary, the educational institution (trust) would recognize the membership fee payment as an expense, while the Engineering Council of India would recognize it as revenue. Both parties should ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and tax regulations governing such transactions.
