21 July 2024 Encountering the error "T-FV-4278 Invalid tax deducted amount. Enter valid tax deducted amount." while validating Form 26Q returns for Quarter 2 using FVU (File Validation Utility) 4.0 indicates that there is likely an issue with how the tax deducted amount is being entered or calculated. Here are steps to troubleshoot and correct this error:

1. **Verify Decimal Places and Formatting**:
- Ensure that the tax deducted amount is entered in the correct format and with the appropriate decimal places. For example, if the amount is Rs 10,000.50, it should be entered as 10000.50 in the return.

2. **Check for Special Characters or Spaces**:
- Remove any special characters, commas, or spaces from the tax deducted amount field. FVU might not recognize amounts with formatting inconsistencies.

3. **Validate against TDS Certificate (Form 16/16A)**:
- Cross-check the tax deducted amount with the TDS certificates (Form 16/16A) issued by the deductor. Ensure that the amount matches exactly what is mentioned in the certificates.

4. **Review TDS Deduction Calculation**:
- Verify the calculation of tax deducted at source (TDS). Ensure that the rate applied for deduction and the amount paid by the deductor are accurate. Sometimes, manual calculations or mismatches in rates can cause validation errors.

**Update FVU Version**:
- Ensure that you are using the latest version of the File Validation Utility (FVU) provided by NSDL or the relevant authority. Updates to FVU often include fixes for validation issues and may resolve the error.

**Re-validate Data Entry**:
- Double-check all data entry fields related to TDS in the Form 26Q return. Review the entire form for any other potential errors or discrepancies.

**Consult with IT Department or TDS Facilitation Center**:
- If the error persists despite checking and correcting the above points, consider contacting the Income Tax (IT) department helpline or a TDS facilitation center for assistance. They can provide specific guidance based on the details of your return and the error message received.

**Document the Process**:
- Keep a record of all steps taken to correct the error, including communications with support services or any changes made to the return. This documentation can be useful for future reference or audits.

By systematically reviewing and correcting the tax deducted amount entry and ensuring compliance with FVU requirements, you should be able to resolve the "Invalid tax deducted amount" error in your Form 26Q returns validation process.
