Source:-The Notification No.2/2015 on dated 13.07.2015 The Notification will come into effect from the date of issue.

By this notification the process of verification after e-filing of any Income tax return has been modified only.

Before this notification we had only two options to verify the income tax return -

1. Verify the return with the help of digital signature

In this case the assessee generally verify its income tax return with its digital signature and email the ITR-V to income tax dept. 2. Verify the return with the help of manual signature(Non digital signature) In this case the assessee who didn’t have their digital signature has an option to verify their e-filing income tax return by signing on hard copy of ITR-V and shall to post it to Bangalore within  120days of filing the income tax return. Often it observed that the process of sending ITR-V to Bangalore didn’t work fruitfully sometimes for assessee and as well as for Income tax dept. also, since the assessee post their ITR-V within 120 days but it get received by dept. after 120days of filing the ITR, Hence thereafter mainly ITR rejects by Income tax dept.

However the assessee has also an option to verify its return by digital signature which results are much better and has not any chances of Non-Receipt of ITR-V, however they are expensive and can’t afford by everyone, generally for Individuals. 1. Now the Question will arise - 1.What is EVC? 2. How did EVC will work? 3. How can we generate or modes to obtain the EVC? 4. How to e-verify the Income tax return by EVC without using digital signature and without sending it to Bangalore while filing the return or after filing the return?

Question 1. What is EVC?

Answer: Electronic Verification Code (EVC) means an alpha numeric 10 digit codes generated for the purpose of electronic verification of the person furnishing (assessee/verifier) the return of income. Question 2.How did EVC will work?

Answer: The Electronic Verification Code (EVC) would verify the identity of the person furnishing the return of income (hereinafter called “verifier”) and same would be generated or indicated on the E-filing website https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in

In case of individual the EVC can be used by a verifier being the Individual to verify his\her Income tax return OR In case of HUF the EVC can be used by a verifier being a Karta to verify the income tax return form 1, 2, 2A, 3, 4, or 4S OR the Income tax return form filed in ITR 5 or 7 can verify by any person in describe in section 140 of Income tax act. The EVC generation process may vary based on the risk category of the assessee. The EVC would be unique for an assessee PAN and will not valid for any other Pan at the time of filing of the Income Tax return.

One EVC can be used to validate one return of one assessee irrespective of the Assessment Year or return filing type(Original or revised). Means the EVC may be change if AY is different or if return type id change, new EVC would to generate if ITR will revised.

The EVC will be stored against the assessee PAN along with other verification details like Aadhaar Card number. The EVC will be valid for 72 hours only. Question 3. How can we generate or modes to obtain the EVC?

Answer. The Verifier can use more than one mode to obtain EVC and can generate the EVC multiple times and following are the four options provided to e-verify the return. (1) EVC can generate after verifier logs in to the e-filing website https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in  through Net-Banking (2) EVC can generate after Aadhaar authentication using aadhaar one time password. (3) EVC is generate by using ATM of A bank.
