As of July 31, 2023, 88% of the Rs 2000 banknotes that were in circulation have been returned to the Reserve Bank of India.
Following the return of 88% of the notes, the value of Rs 2000 banknotes in circulation stood at Rs 0.42 lakh crore as of July 31, 2023.
Approximately 87% of the returned Rs 2000 notes were deposited into bank accounts, and about 13% were exchanged for banknotes of other denominations.
The public is advised to deposit and/or exchange their Rs 2000 banknotes before September 30, 2023.
