The Income Tax Department searched a group engaged in the business of coal transportation and other allied activities.
The search operations covered more than 30 premises spread across Raipur, Bhilai, Raigarh, Korba, Bilaspur, and Surajpur in Chhattisgarh.
Evidence suggests the group generated unaccounted income exceeding Rs 200 crore through unfair regular collections on coal transportation.
During the search, undisclosed cash exceeding Rs 9.5 crore and jewellery worth Rs 4.5 crore were seized. Incriminating documents, loose sheets, and digital evidence were also found.
The premises of a senior government officer were covered in the search, and instances of cash payments made to government officials have been identified.
The investigation revealed unaccounted cash payments of approximately Rs 45 crore for purchasing coal washeries, cash expenditure during recent elections, and undisclosed investments in benami immovable properties.
