ICSI along with NSD council to develop GST Accounts Assistant

Last updated: 13 November 2017

Dear Students,

Sub: ICSI and National Skill Development Council enter into MoU to Develop GST Accounts Assistants

The Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, while inaugurating Year-Long Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the ICSI on 4th October, 2017 at New Delhi, and with the objective that the benefits of the GST reached one and all, had emphasised on the need to spread the awareness and benefits of GST and making the GST services easily accessible to traders, businesses, industries and other stake holders, especially those in towns and mofussil areas. For the purpose, he had desired the ICSI to develop GST Accounts Assistants sizing to the tune of one lakh such resources.

Further, the Hon’ble Prime Minister, considering the ICSI students a valuable resource to the society by virtue of rigorous training undergone and a rich exposure gained by them in the process – especially those who chose to drop out midway, suggested that such resources should be developed as GST Accounts Assistants to enable them to take the benefit of emerging employment and other opportunities and to contribute for this major reform to benefit the society at large.

It is a matter of pride for us that the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India desired us to develop the GST work force. We are indeed thankful to him for the confidence reposed in, and the concern expressed for, the ICSI students, especially those who acquired training and crossed the journey of the profession up to a point but could not accomplish the final milestone.

You would be happy to note that the ICSI took immediate and accelerated efforts in the matter and has since entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Skill Development Council, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India on 9th November, 2017.

In terms of the said MoU, ICSI Students, among others, will be :

(a) Trained as GST Accounts Assistants without being required to pay any fee; and
(b) Eligible to provide their services as GST Accounts Assistants after the training

The detailed scheme (modalities) is being worked out and I am sure that with this move, the ICSI students will have greater employment opportunities and at the same time, they will also assist the traders, businesses, industries and other stake holders, especially those in their towns and mofussil areas, by providing them cost effective and value added services.

With regards,
Yours sincerely,
