Last updated: 09 August 2025

The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has announced the rollout of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and debit/credit card payment facilities for GST transactions, now operational across 23 States. This move aims to make GST payments faster, more convenient and user-friendly for taxpayers across the country.

GSTN Enables UPI and Card Payments for GST - Now Live in 23 States

The integration of UPI and card payments into the GST portal eliminates the need for traditional net banking or manual challan submissions, enabling real-time payment confirmation and seamless reconciliation. Taxpayers can now pay GST dues directly through popular UPI apps or by using their debit and credit cards, reducing delays and improving compliance.

According to GSTN, the feature is part of its ongoing initiative to modernize the tax payment ecosystem, making it more accessible for businesses of all sizes. The convenience of digital payments is expected to particularly benefit small and medium enterprises (SMEs), which often face challenges in meeting compliance deadlines due to banking delays.

The facility is live in 23 States, with plans to expand to the remaining States and Union Territories in the coming months. Tax experts believe that integrating faster payment options will also help reduce last-minute payment bottlenecks during GST filing deadlines.

The development reflects the government's broader push toward Digital India, encouraging the adoption of digital payments and enhancing the efficiency of India's tax administration system.

For more details, GSTN shared the update on its official platform, confirming that taxpayers can now opt for UPI and card payments while generating GST challans.
