Last updated: 07 March 2025

The Excise and Taxation Department has recorded significant growth in Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection, reinforcing Haryana's strong fiscal performance. In February 2025, India's gross GST revenue stood at ₹1,83,646 crore, marking a 9.1% year-on-year increase. Haryana, however, outpaced the national growth rate with a 20% surge in GST collection, reaching ₹9,925 crore compared to ₹8,269 crore in February 2024.

With this robust growth, Haryana continues to be among the top five states in GST collection, alongside Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu. The state had also reported the highest growth rate among major states in January 2025, further underscoring its economic momentum.

Tax Reforms Drive Haryana's Revenue Growth

A government spokesperson credited this achievement to the progressive tax policies of the Haryana Government and the efficient administration of the Excise and Taxation Department. The increase in GST revenue is a key indicator of economic expansion, reflecting higher business activity, compliance, and digital integration in tax processes.

The Excise and Taxation Department contributes over 80% of the state's total revenue through SGST, Excise Duty, and VAT collections. Between April 2024 and February 2025, the department collected ₹57,125 crore, achieving over 90% of the annual Budget target of ₹63,348 crore for FY 2024-25. With a month still remaining in the fiscal year, the department is poised to exceed its revenue target.

Revenue Growth Fuels State Development

The Haryana Government emphasized that the surge in GST collections directly supports infrastructure development, public welfare schemes, and economic growth initiatives. Increased revenue strengthens the state's ability to provide civic amenities, enhance industrial competitiveness, and attract investment, making Haryana a key contributor to the national economy.

With a sustained focus on tax compliance, digital governance, and economic reforms, Haryana is set to maintain its upward trajectory in revenue collection, reinforcing its position as a leading contributor to India's GST growth.
