The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) on October 18, 2025, announced a major enhancement to its GST payment infrastructure, enabling taxpayers to make payments directly through Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and Debit/Credit Cards. This upgrade aims to make GST payment more convenient, faster, and digitally accessible for businesses and individuals across India.
As part of the update, two new banks - Indian Overseas Bank and Bandhan Bank have been added to the authorized list for online GST payments. With this, taxpayers now have a wider network of banks and payment options to choose from.

UPI and Card Payments Now Live for GST
The new payment facility is powered by major payment networks such as Rupay, MasterCard, Visa, and Diners, offering users flexibility across multiple platforms. Taxpayers can now make payments through their accounts with the following major banks:
- Axis Bank, Canara Bank, HDFC Bank, IDFC First Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Union Bank of India, Indian Overseas Bank, Bandhan Bank, ICICI Bank,
- Indian Bank, Dhanlaxmi Bank, Karnataka Bank, Karur Vysya Bank, and South Indian Bank.
GSTN noted that specific conditions apply for certain banks - such as Debit Card (DC)-only, Credit Card (CC)-only, or UPI-only transactions - depending on their integration level with the GST portal.
Simplifying Compliance Through Digital Integration
A GSTN spokesperson highlighted the importance of this digital shift, stating:
"We are committed to leveraging technology to simplify tax compliance for all businesses. By integrating UPI and Debit/Credit Card payments, we are providing greater flexibility and convenience, especially for businesses operating in regions with robust digital payment adoption."
This initiative marks another step in the government's ongoing efforts to promote ease of doing business and enhance digital compliance under GST.
Facility Now Available in 26+ States and UTs
The UPI and card payment options have been rolled out across 26 States and Union Territories, including:
Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Puducherry, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal.
GSTN has confirmed that more banks and regions will be added soon, ensuring nationwide coverage in the coming months.
