The Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs has intensified its efforts to ensure that the benefits of GST rate cuts are effectively passed on to consumers. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi announced on Thursday that the Department of Consumer Affairs, through the National Consumer Helpline (NCH), has handled 3,981 GST-related complaints and queries so far.
"The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) is closely monitoring grievances to ensure transparency, protect consumers from misinformation, and guarantee that the benefits of GST reforms truly reach every Indian," Joshi said.

The government's consumer grievance redressal network-accessible through helpline number 1915, UMANG app, WhatsApp and SMS services in 17 languages has been actively assisting citizens in reporting cases where businesses fail to pass on GST rate reductions. Authorities are also taking strict action against violators who do not comply with anti-profiteering provisions.
According to official sources, e-commerce platforms have come under close scrutiny as the government monitors prices of essential FMCG products, including shampoos, soaps and pulses, to ensure that the reduced GST rates are reflected in retail prices.
The renewed monitoring efforts come at a time when India's GST collections grew by 9.1% year-on-year in September 2025, reaching Rs 1.89 lakh crore, the fastest pace in four months. This marks the ninth consecutive month of GST inflows above Rs 1.8 lakh crore, reflecting improved compliance and steady economic activity.
Despite subdued spending on non-durable goods, the government expects the ongoing GST rationalisation drive to lower the tax burden, stimulate consumption, and strengthen domestic demand. The reforms are also expected to enhance demand visibility for manufacturers, encouraging investment and capacity expansion.
The Consumer Affairs Ministry reaffirmed that it remains committed to protecting consumer interests, promoting fair trade practices, and ensuring that the benefits of GST reforms reach every citizen across India.
