CBI Arrests Income Tax Inspector and Middleman in Rs 70,000 Bribery Case in Vijayawada

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an Income Tax Inspector based in Vijayawada and a middleman for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 70,000 from a local businessman to suppress departmental action. The arrests were made during a trap operation conducted by the agency on Monday.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two accused including Inspector, Income Tax, Vijayawada and one Tout / Middle Man (Private person) for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 70,000/- from the Complainant for not taking action on the petitions received against the Complainant and for not conducting income tax raid.

CBI registered the instant case on 29.07.2025 against the two said accused. It was alleged by the complainant that one officer working in the O/o. Commissioner of Income Tax demanded a bribe of Rs.5 lakh initially through one tout / middle man from the Complainant, who is running a Mobile Service Shop in Ramachandra Rao Peta, Eluru, for not to give notices on the petitions received by the Income Tax Department against him and not to conduct income tax raid. As the complainant expressed inability to pay such a big amount of bribe, finally settled for Rs. 1,20,000/- (Rs. 1 lakh for the officer and 20,000/- for the middleman).

CBI laid a trap and caught the accused tout/middleman red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 70,000/- from the Complainant, on behalf of the Inspector of Income Tax, Vijayawada. Subsequently, both the accused were arrested. They would be produced before the Hon'ble Spl. Judge Court for CBI Cases, Vijayawada. Searches are being conducted.
