With several important tax compliance deadlines falling during the Diwali festive period, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Supriya Sule has urged Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to consider extending statutory tax compliance timelines to provide relief to Chartered Accountants, tax practitioners, traders and small businesses.
In a post on social media platform X, Sule highlighted the difficulties faced by tax professionals and business owners who are required to complete multiple statutory compliances during the festive season. She requested the Finance Ministry to take a considerate view of the situation and provide suitable extensions so that taxpayers and professionals can celebrate Diwali with their families without the additional pressure of approaching deadlines.

TDS, TCS and GST Deadlines Add to Festive Season Pressure
Highlighting the compliance burden during Diwali 2026, Supriya Sule pointed out that several important tax-related obligations are scheduled within a short period.
As per her post, the key upcoming compliance dates include:
|
Compliance Requirement |
Due Date |
|---|---|
|
TDS/TCS Payment |
7 November 2026 |
|
GST Returns and Related Filings |
10 November to 13 November 2026 |
These overlapping deadlines could create considerable work pressure for Chartered Accountants, tax practitioners, traders and small businesses, particularly during a period when many businesses and professionals are occupied with festive preparations.
Sule emphasised that tax professionals and business owners also deserve sufficient time to celebrate the festival with their families while fulfilling their statutory responsibilities.
Urging Hon’ble Union Finance Minister @nsitharaman ji to consider extending tax compliance deadlines during Diwali 2026. With TDS/TCS payments due on 7 November and several GST filings scheduled between 10 and 13 November, Chartered Accountants, tax practitioners, traders and small businesses face considerable pressure during the festive season. Mr. Nagesh Shivaji Salunkhe, State President of the @NCPspeaks Tax Practitioners Cell, Maharashtra, met me and submitted a memorandum highlighting these concerns. Diwali is an important time for families, and those fulfilling these statutory obligations deserve the opportunity to celebrate it with their loved ones. I request the Finance Ministry to provide suitable relief and consider a festival-sensitive compliance calendar to avoid such difficulties in the future. @FinMinIndia

Memorandum Submitted by Maharashtra Tax Practitioners Cell
The issue was also brought to Supriya Sule's attention by Mr. Nagesh Shivaji Salunkhe, State President of the NCP Tax Practitioners Cell, Maharashtra.
According to Sule, Salunkhe personally met her and submitted a memorandum outlining the difficulties faced by tax practitioners and other stakeholders due to compliance deadlines falling around Diwali.
The memorandum highlighted the practical challenges associated with completing multiple statutory filings and payments during the festive period and sought suitable intervention from the Finance Ministry.
Following the meeting, Sule raised the matter publicly and tagged Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and the Ministry of Finance, requesting them to consider the concerns of the affected stakeholders.
Demand for a Festival-Sensitive Tax Compliance Calendar
Apart from seeking immediate relief for Diwali 2026, Supriya Sule also called for a more practical approach towards scheduling statutory compliance deadlines in the future.
She suggested that the Finance Ministry consider adopting a festival-sensitive compliance calendar to avoid situations where multiple important tax deadlines coincide with major festivals.
Such an approach, if considered, could help reduce compliance-related pressure on tax professionals, businesses and taxpayers during important festive occasions.
Will the Government Extend November 2026 Tax Compliance Due Dates?
Sule's appeal has brought attention to the difficulties faced by tax professionals and businesses when statutory deadlines coincide with major festivals.
However, there has been no official announcement of any extension of the November 2026 TDS/TCS or GST compliance deadlines based on this appeal as of the time of writing.
Unless the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) or the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) issues an official notification or circular providing relief, taxpayers and professionals should continue to follow the existing statutory timelines.
The Finance Ministry's response to the request will be important for thousands of Chartered Accountants, tax practitioners, traders and small businesses managing their compliance responsibilities during Diwali.
