The 57th meeting of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council has been rescheduled and will now be held on October 7, 2026, in New Delhi.
According to an Office Memorandum issued by the GST Council Secretariat on September 6, 2026, the meeting, which was earlier scheduled for September 12, 2026, has been postponed. The meeting will begin at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.
The revised schedule has been communicated to members of the GST Council and concerned authorities.

57th GST Council Meeting: Revised Schedule
The GST Council has issued the following revised schedule:
| Meeting | Date | Time | Venue |
|---|---|---|---|
| Officers' Meeting | October 5, 2026 | 3:00 PM onwards | New Delhi |
| Officers' Meeting | October 6, 2026 | 10:30 AM onwards | New Delhi |
| 57th GST Council Meeting | October 7, 2026 | 11:00 AM onwards | New Delhi |
The Council Secretariat stated that the venue details and final agenda items for both the GST Council meeting and the preceding Officers' Meeting will be communicated separately in due course.
Earlier Schedule Was Set for September 12
The 57th GST Council meeting was originally scheduled to take place on September 12, 2026, in New Delhi. It was to be preceded by Officers' Meetings on September 10 and 11.
The latest memorandum supersedes the earlier schedule and formally moves the Council meeting to October 7, with the Officers' Meeting now scheduled for October 5 and 6.
The rescheduling was communicated through Office Memorandum F.No. 1392/57th GSTCM/GSTC/2026 dated September 6, 2026, signed by Arvind Shrivastava, Secretary to the Government of India and ex-officio Secretary to the GST Council.
Final Agenda Yet to Be Announced
While the revised dates have now been confirmed, the final agenda for the 57th GST Council meeting has not yet been communicated.
This means that any specific tax rate changes, exemptions, compliance measures, procedural amendments or other GST-related decisions expected from the meeting cannot be treated as confirmed until the official agenda or subsequent announcements are issued.
The Council Secretariat has stated that details relating to the venue and final agenda items will be communicated at a later stage.
GST Council Members to Be Informed
The revised schedule has been circulated to the relevant authorities, including the Chief Secretaries of State Governments and the concerned Union Territories.
The communication requests that the Finance/Taxation Ministers or other nominated Ministers representing the respective State Governments be informed about the revised schedule so that they can attend the 57th GST Council meeting.
The memorandum has also been sent to the Chairman, Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), who is a permanent invitee to the proceedings of the Council, and the Chief Executive Officer of GSTN.
What Happens Next?
The Officers' Meetings on October 5 and 6 are expected to precede the main Council meeting on October 7. These discussions typically form an important part of the preparatory process before matters are placed before the GST Council.
For taxpayers, businesses, tax professionals and industry stakeholders, the key development at this stage is the change in schedule rather than any confirmed GST policy decision.
Any announcements on GST rates, exemptions, compliance requirements or other tax measures will become clearer once the final agenda is released and the GST Council takes decisions at its meeting.
