Tax free interest on sale of nhai bonds

Friends,

I have purchased tax free NHAI bonds offering 8.2% interest. Interest would be received on October 1 every year. Current price of the Bond is 1092. The price includes the interest accrued till date from the last record date. If I sell the bonds at the current price, can I segregate the tax free interest from the sale consideration and consider the net amount for computing Capital Gains tax??

Please help.

Hi Ravi,

As the  bonds are listed on the BSE and NSE, and if you sell them on the exchange and make capital gains on them, then that will be taxable. You can't seggregate the Interest portion out of that.
