Hi, GMS Gupta,

I am a Chartered Accountant and have done certification in SAP FI, so hope, I may be able to help you take a decision. I can give you certain facts based on my experience.

  1.  Now SAP does not offer, FICO together. They have split FI and CO.
  2. For each course the fees are same. If you are thinking of going through the ICAI ( which offers discount for wbt-web based training) then also you need to devote at least 3-4 month to clear the certification exam.WBT through ICAI should cost around Rs. 1.00 lac (including exam fee)
  3. If you go for faculty based training it costs around 3.5 lacs - provided it is available in the city you stay, otherwise add the cost of stay at another place.
  4. Even after clearing the certification exam, the jobs available for SAP freshers are few and tough to get. You need to relocate to Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai or such other city. If you are already based in these cities, wont be any problem.
  5. Of course, if you have practical experience of working in SAP environment, then it may be a bit easier for you.
  6. Weigh the pros and cons - CA course is 50% completed, if you do not complete this you are simply a graduate, whereas if you complete it you become a professional. And I need not elaborate that a qualified CA is much more in demand than a simple graduate. As against this if you leave CA and go for SAP FI or SAP CO, may be you can get a good opportunity in SAP and get to learn many more things, but you will lose the opportunity of becoming a professional. You need to weigh the opportunity cost.

I hope the above points help you.
