One quick question about the individual income tax return.

ITR 887 views 3 replies

I have a question to ask. I submitted the online return of my mother last assesment year 2009-10 claiming some refund. But in the ITR form i mistakenly put up MALE instead of female. And today i received a letter from the ITO, Bangalore recomputing the tax according to a male assessee and ending up with a tax value.

So i want to know what do i have to do to correct this. Since it is last assessment year, i cannot send a revised return.

What is the process to correct this mistake ?

i think u should move sec 154-Mistake apparent from record, and convince the AO about ur mistake and he will correct it

that is exactly what i was thinking. so how do i convince. its just the first time in past 30 years that the SEX was written as MALE. Would sending a copy of PAN card and writing a letter of reasoning along with the copy of the letter and attachment provided by them to the ITO, Bangalore be enough ?

I think copy of PAN will be good enough proof to prove ur mistake. U can also attach last year's returns' copy alongwith current year's with the reasoning application
