In e-Filing of IT Returns, maximum allowed limit is 15 digits for online credit of refund directly to the account.
To my knowledge only Punjab National Bank has 16 Digit Bank Account Numbers. It is not possible to enter the 16 digit accounts numbers when the maximum allowed limit is 15 digits. Due to this limitation the correct account number does not reflect in the IT Return and the account holders of PNB are deprived of this benefit.
How to address this problem, please advise.

Write to CBDT for modification in the forms. Best option is not to go for ecs.

I have forwarded the message to IT Department to revert back on this limitation of 15 digits.
Yes the matter should be taken up with either CBDT or Ministry of Finance to get a resolution of this problem.
This limitation of 15 Digits will deprive all Account Holders of Punjab National of direct credit of Refund to their accounts.
To comply with the norms to provide Account Number the following problems will be encountered by the assessee:-
1.The assessee tries entering 16 digit account number but the return does not accept the same;
2.In order to file the return, incomplete account number will be furnished by deleting one of the 16 digits;
3.Assessee will find it easy to open another Bank Account to provide 15 digit account number.
The above problem will be faced by the assessees/consultants while E-FILING of IT Returns of the assessees having their Bank Account with PUNJAB NATIONAL BANK.
