which FY you want?
2017-18

I have given the breakup of the calculation below:

This has been tallied with the Income Tax calculator available at

https://www.incometaxindia.gov.in/pages/tools/income-tax-calculator-234abc.aspx

Assumed Income: 10100000

                                                                    "totalRegularTax" : 2842500,

                                                                    "surchargeTaxList" : [
                                                                        284250,
                                                                        426375
                                                                    ],

Tax without surcharge at 15% (For reference purpose to calculate marginal relief in >1Cr case , but surcharge of 10% >50L still applies)
                                                                    "nominalSurchargeT1" : 284250,
                                                                    "taxAfterSurchargeT1" : 3126750,
                                                                    "surchargeMarginalReliefT1" : 0,

For Income >1Cr
                                                                    "nominalSurchargeT2" : 426375,
                                                                    "taxAfterSurchargeT2" : 3268875,
                                                                    "surchargeMarginalReliefT2" : 75125,
                                                                    "totalSurcharge" : 351250,
                                                                    "taxAfterSurcharge" : 3193750,
                                                                    "cessList" : [
                                                                        63875.0,
                                                                        31937.5
                                                                    ],
                                                                    "totalCess" : 95813,
                                                                    "grossTax" : 3289563,

can anyone explain how the above surcharge marginal relief of 75125 came

Hi Divya,I will be happy to help you on this.

Marginal Relief Rule:

When income increases, then Increase in tax cannot be more than increase in income.

Try it for FY 2016-17:

Mr A pays TaxA on Income 1 Cr = 2825000

Mr B pays TaxB on Income of 1Cr + 50,000 = 3266000

The problem here is that Mr B has to pay 4,41,000 extra tax than Mr A where as his income is only 50,000 more than Mr A.

Here Marginal Relief Rule will kick in and Mr B will get a marginal relief of 4,41,000 - 50,000 = 391,000 so that Mr B has to pay only 50,000 extra tax.

You can apply the very same methodology to FY 2017-18.

thankyou
